The Milex® Pessary Fitting Kit was developed to help you determine the correct size in your practice before prescribing a pessary to your patient. Please note: the yellow pessaries are for fitting purposes only, not for long-term patient use.
The test pessaries can be cleaned or sterilized in an autoclave.
Pessary fitting process
To ensure a proper fit, the patient may need to try different shapes and sizes of pessaries. After the pelvic examination, the physician starts with a pessary that, in their experience, will fit best. Once the correct shape has been determined, the correct size must be determined. This is usually the largest pessary the patient can comfortably wear. With the correct fit, a patient should be able to squat, sit, or stand without the pessary coming loose.
The physician's finger should easily fit between the pessary and the vaginal wall. The physician should check the pessary to ensure that its intended function is being fulfilled. If the patient is using a pessary for stress incontinence, the patient should cough – both with and without the pessary – to test for urine leakage.
